Statement
I continue to delve into nautical themes, exploring various elements of seafaring culture. For many years I have been interested in tall ships and arctic landscapes, which led to a series based on Ernest Shackleton’s infamous expedition. Lately I have been exploiting certain visual scenarios in harbors that can be familiar and strange at the same time - moorings, ropes, pulleys and nets. The characters that inhabit these scenes serve as a ground for creating environments that are met with energy, confusion and tension, allowing saturated colors and the malleability of the paint to build an unlikely world.
